Tema: Field Schools

The Institute for Field Research (www.ifrglobal.org) is proud to announce its 2013 field schools. Among the many exciting locations we offer this year (Olduvai in Tanzania, Boncuklu in Turkey, to name a few) are six field schools in South America that may be of interest to members of this forum:

  • Chincha (Peru) directed by Charles Stanish, UCLA

  • Ciudad Perdida (Colombia) directed by Santiago Giraldo, Global Heritage Fund

  • Huari (Peru) directed by Ran Boytner, IFR

  • Moqi (Peru) directed by Colleen Zori, UCLA

  • Taraco (Peru) directed by Abigail Levine, UCLA

  • Vitor (Peru) directed by Maria Cecilia Lozada, University of Chicago

Please let your students know about these field school opportunities. Students are awarded 8 semester credit units (equivalent to 12 quarter units) through our academic partner – Connecticut College. Connecticut College (CC) is a private, highly ranked liberal arts college and students will receive CC transcripts with letter grade for participating in any of our field schools.

The Institute for Field Research (IFR) was established in 2011 by a group of international academics who wishes to expand access, pedagogy, research and funding for archaeology field schools. We view field schools not only as places for training the next generation of professional archaeologists but also as a locus in which students may be exposed to the importance of the past and have meaningful cultural experiences. IFR field schools are research based and provide rigorous academic training for both undergraduate and graduate students. The IFR works with excellent projects only and recruit students from across the US and the world. Our field school directors are passionate about and strongly committed to teaching through research and to developing mentorship relationships with students. Many research and independent studies opportunities exist – depending on location, local laws and regulations and qualification of individual students.
